1、 Design concept

This work uses "light" as a medium and "shadow" as a narrative, depicting the magnificent epic of humanity's journey from the naive longing for the sky to the conquest of space. The four images of the desk lamp——Ancient people gaze at the moon, children go out for a walk, airplanes take a glimpse, and space exploration——They represent the four stages of human aerospace exploration:Dreams, Enlightenment, Breakthroughs, and Expeditions.

When the desk lamp lights up, warm light shines through the laser carved wooden board, casting clear and soft light and shadow on the wall, symbolizing the light of human wisdom illuminating the long journey of exploring the world. This is not just a lamp, but also a luminous sculpture of time, a light and shadow poem about dreams and exploration.

2、 Inspiration source

Intangible Cultural Heritage Paper Cuttings ArtMy core inspiration comes from the traditional Chinese Paper Cuttings art. Paper Cuttings creates a vivid story picture on a two-dimensional plane with its hollowing technique, and when light passes through Paper Cuttings, it can create a unique and charming light and shadow effect. I have integrated this traditional aesthetic of 'light as the soul, shadow as the charm' into modern desk lamp design.

A Thousand Year Flying DreamFrom the myth of Chang'e flying to the moon, the blessing of Kongming lanterns, to the soaring of kites, the Chinese nation's dream of flying has never stopped. Until modern times, the Wright brothers' planes and Armstrong's moon landing brought dreams into reality. This persistent pursuit spanning thousands of years constitutes the core of the narrative in this work.

Spatiotemporal narrative sequenceBreaking the static decorative nature of traditional desk lamp patterns, adopting a continuous narrative composition. The four scenes are like movie storyboards, telling a complete exploration story from ancient times to the present, from earth to sky, forming a unique "circular viewing" experience.

Modern expression of intangible cultural heritage: Transforming the plane language of Paper Cuttings into a three-dimensional light box structure, it not only retains the delicacy and hollowing beauty of Paper Cuttings, but also endows its practical lighting function through modern design, which is an "activation" practice of traditional intangible heritage in contemporary life.

2. Structural Innovation: Modular Splicing and Stable Light and Shadow

Precise plug-in structureThe four wooden boards are assembled using precision laser cutting and insertion technology, without the need for glue. The structure is stable and easy to transport and disassemble. The modern simplified application of mortise and tenon structures reflects the wisdom of the East.

Optimal Transparent SpaceBy calculating the angle of the lampshade and the internal space, ensure that each pattern is evenly illuminated, with clear and full light and shadow effects, and avoid areas that are too bright or too dark.

Dialogue between Material and LightThe use of natural wood material, with its natural texture and warm texture, produces a soft and warm visual effect when light passes through. This creates a warm contrast with the cold and technological sense of aerospace exploration, symbolizing that all great explorations begin with the softest dreams in the depths of the human heart.
