Magnetic tape is a strip material carrying a magnetic layer used for recording sound, images, digital or other signals, and is the most widely produced and versatile magnetic recording material. It is usually formed by coating a layer of granular magnetic material or evaporating and depositing a layer of magnetic oxide or alloy film on a plastic film base (support). Previously, paper and celluloid were used as tape bases, but now polyester films with high strength, good stability, and resistance to deformation are mainly used.
